Transferring to Microbiology Spectrum

Microbiology Spectrum is an open access journal that publishes research from all domains of basic, applied and clinical microbial sciences. Rather than making subjective evaluations of potential impact, Microbiology Spectrum publishes technically sound, primary research across the entire range of microbial sciences and allied fields. Any research manuscript rejected from an ASM journal can be transferred to Microbiology Spectrum using the transfer link provided in the decision letter. If your paper was peer reviewed at an ASM research journal, the editors at Microbiology Spectrum are often able to expedite their evaluation based on the reviews obtained previously.

Editors at all ASM research journals can offer to accept papers on behalf of Microbiology Spectrum. Please use the transfer link in the decision letter to transfer your paper to Microbiology Spectrum. Following transfer, the editors and staff at Microbiology Spectrum will work with you towards acceptance and final publication of the paper. Please note that you may be asked to respond to minor concerns raised during peer review and that you may also be asked to edit and/or reformat the paper prior to formal acceptance at Microbiology Spectrum. The date of acceptance is the date that you receive the formal acceptance letter from Microbiology Spectrum. Transferring to Another ASM Journal

ASM authors whose manuscripts were declined and who wish to transfer to another ASM journal other than Microbiology Spectrum should contact the journal office where they originally submitted their paper. Journal staff can initiate a discussion with the recipient journal Editor(s) to determine if your paper is a good fit. If so, staff will transfer your files, which will facilitate, and in many cases expedite, the final decision at the recipient journal. If your manuscript was peer reviewed, you will be asked to provide a Response to Reviewer Comments file with your transferred submission.

Manuscripts Reviewed by Non-ASM Journals

ASM Journals offer expedited review for manuscripts previously reviewed by non-ASM journals. Such submissions will receive a final decision without review if possible, or they may be sent for peer or editorial review. To submit your manuscript for consideration, please include the following items in your submission:

• A cover letter declaring the previous submission and requesting expedited review
• A PDF file of the entire previously submitted manuscript uploaded as a Miscellaneous File Not for Publication
• A Response to Reviewer Comments file containing the previous decision letter(s), all previous reviews, any manuscript correspondence, and your point-by-point response to the reviews, including page and line numbers where changes have been made
• A tracked-changes file showing the revisions made, uploaded as a Marked Up Manuscript file
