ASM Journals Non-Commercial TDM License

DOI: 10.1128/ASM.Journals.TDM.License

ASM Journals grants researchers at subscribing institutions text and data mining rights for noncommercial research purposes under the terms and conditions outlined below. By leveraging the Crossref Text and Data Mining Service, researchers are able to mine content across many publishers from a single location.

Authorized Users are permitted to engage in noncommercial Text and Data Mining (TDM) meaning: downloading, extracting and indexing information from the Licensed Materials. Where required, TDM includes mounting, loading, and integrating the results on a server used for the Licensee’s and/or its Member Sites’ text-mining system and evaluating and interpreting the TDM output for access and use by Authorized Users.

The Licensee and its Member Sites shall ensure compliance with Licensee’s obligations set forth in the ASM Journals Site License, including but not limited to security and technical access requirements. TDM may be undertaken on either locally loaded Licensed Materials or as mutually agreed.

Where the Licensee and/or its Member Sites are in breach of any conditions of the license, the Publisher has the right to deny access to any of the subscribed Content for TDM purposes.

With the permission of the Publisher, any of the requirements listed above can be waived. The rights and limitations set out in the full Site License Agreement still apply without exception.

TDM Outputs and Credit. ASM Journals Expectations When TDM Outputs Are Made Available:

  • The original authors receive the appropriate credit and attribution.
  • DOI-based URLs to the content on the Publisher’s site are included.

UK Exception and TDM. Text and Data Mining forms part of an exception to UK copyright law that allows 'computational analysis' for UK researchers as long as they have legal access to the content for the purpose of noncommercial research.

Open Access Content and TDM. Researchers seeking text and data mining rights for open access content should review the Creative Commons license the article is published under, as the rights are outlined in each of those licenses.
