Seroprevalences to Viral Pathogens in Free-Ranging and Captive Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) on Namibian Farmland
ABSTRACT
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Study animals and sample collection.
Testing for antibodies against FHV, FCV, FPV, FCoV, and CDV.
Quality control.
Testing for FeLV antigen and antibodies against FIV.
Testing for antibodies against rabies virus and rabies antigen.
Histopathological examination.
Data and statistical analysis.
RESULTS
Prevalence of antibodies in cheetahs.
Serology in free-ranging carnivores other than cheetahs.
Symptoms of viral infections.
Necropsies.
DISCUSSION
Seroprevalence and sources of transmission.
Comparison of free-ranging and captive populations.
FIV and FIV-like exposure and infection.
Exposure to rabies virus.
Vulnerability to pathogens and stress.
Conclusions.
