ASM Appoints New Journal Editors in Chief
ASM is delighted to announce the appointment of new Editors in Chief of Infection and Immunity (IAI) and Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) and the reappointment to second terms of the Editors in Chief of the Journal of Virology (JVI) and Clinical Microbiology Reviews (CMR). The new 5-year terms will begin July 1, 2017.
Andreas J. Bäumler, Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair of Research at UC Davis School of Medicine and one of the world's leading Salmonella researchers, has been named the new Editor in Chief of IAI. He succeeds Editor in Chief Ferric C. Fang, whose leadership from July 2007 through June 2017 firmly established IAI's reputation for consistently publishing important and high-quality work. Under Dr. Bäumler's direction, IAI will expand its scope beyond mechanisms of pathogenesis to emphasize mechanistic studies of host-microbiota interactions and to include such rich topics as the role of microbial metabolites in immune education, niche protection, and host nutrition.
Peter Tontonoz, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA, Dean's Scholar at the David Geffen School of Medicine, and Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, has been appointed incoming Editor in Chief of MCB, succeeding Roger J. Davis, who will retire after 10 successful years as Editor in Chief. Dr. Tontonoz will lead MCB in expanding its traditional focus on the basic molecular mechanisms of physiological processes in eukaryotic cells to feature studies of the fundamental processes underlying the role of bacteria, viruses, yeasts, fungi, and prions in chronic diseases or conditions, as well as the underlying relationships between the microbiome/virome and host physiology.
Rozanne Sandri-Goldin, Professor and Chair of the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at UC Irvine, and Jo-Anne Young, Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of the Program in Adult Transplant Infectious Disease at the University of Minnesota, have been reappointed to second terms as Editors in Chief of JVI and CMR, respectively. Dr. Sandri-Goldin and Dr. Young have provided outstanding leadership of these premier ASM journals since July 2012.
