ASM Crown Copyright
Authority to Publish Copyrighted Material: For British, Australian, or Canadian Government Employees
The government of Australia, Canada, or the United Kingdom ("the Crown") owns the copyright interests of the Agency employee/author(s). The Crown Copyright is not transferable.
The Agency cannot negotiate on behalf of any non-Agency employee(s). Their permission is being obtained separately. The names of authors who were not Agency employees are listed below. This document does not pertain to them.License
This license pertains to the Crown's copyright interests in the paper. On behalf of the Crown, Agency grants to the American Society for Microbiology ("ASM") a non-exclusive worldwide license to copy, publish, and distribute the paper and prepare, publish, copy, and distribute derivative works based thereon, in English or in any other language, in any format or medium now known or hereafter developed.
Limitations
The license granted herein is subject to the rights of the Crown, under applicable law. The license granted herein does not include any patent rights which may be owned by the Crown. ASM does not object to submission, by grantee authors, of the accepted manuscript to electronic government or noncommercial public access repositories, such as those established by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (PubMed Central Public Access Repository) and the Wellcome Trust. All ASM primary-research Journals are available free of charge to the public six (6) months after publication on the ASM Journals website and PubMed Central. Therefore, ASM recommends that the authors specify a manuscript posting release date no earlier than 6 months after final publication of the typeset article by ASM.
Author's Representations
The author submitting this form represents that the paper is original and has not been submitted for publication or published elsewhere. All persons listed as authors are aware of this submission to ASM and have approved submission of the paper, including all research presented therein, for publication by ASM. The paper contains no libelous or unlawful statements and does not infringe on any other person's or entity's copyright, patent, or other proprietary rights. If the paper contains any excerpts from works that are not in the public domain, the author(s) have obtained permission from the copyright owner(s). The author(s) agree to abide by the ASM Instructions to Authors.
It is the intent of the parties that this authorization provides ASM with all necessary permission required from the Crown for the publication of the paper by ASM. In the event ASM decides not to publish the paper, this authorization will be null and void. This document does not transfer the Crown Copyright in the paper to ASM.
The Crown retains the right to publish, by itself or through an authorized Government office or bureau, the text of the original paper and to copy and distribute the paper. However, the Crown and the Agency employee/authors agree to abide by the recognized principle of scientific publication that the material accepted for publication will not be submitted for publication in any other journal or medium. This principle ensures the integrity of scientific writings and is recognized by all scientific and academic publications and institutions.
