Optional Open Access and Supplemental Material Fees

OPTIONAL OPEN ACCESS (OOA): Author-paid OOA is now available for all article types except review articles in CMR and MMBR. The 2009 fee is $2,000. This fee is in addition to any page charges, color charges, or supplemental material charges and permits immediate public access to both the preliminary “Accepts” version and the copyedited, typeset version published in the online journal. This option is in addition to the open access already provided through NIH’s PubMed Central repository; all primary research published in ASM journals is freely available through PubMed Central 6 months after publication. Authors whose papers have already been submitted and who did not have the opportunity to specify their wish for OOA in Rapid Review during the submission process may contact the ASM production editor to arrange it.

SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL FEE: Effective with August 2009 issues, authors will be charged a flat fee for posting supplemental material as an adjunct to their published article. For 2009, the fee is $190. Please bear this in mind when considering whether to include supplemental material for online posting by ASM with your next submission. (Exceptions: No fee is charged for supplemental material associated with Minireviews or Guest Commentaries; review articles in CMR and MMBR are also exempt from supplemental material fees.)
